Version control for academics

A few months ago, I was proposed the opportunity to give a talk at ISBA’s Young researcher’s day 2023 (UcLouvain, Louvain-la-neuve, BE) about version control. I already wrote a bit on git and GitHub for latex writing and even more automation. Therefore, I decided to expand the subject on how git and GitHub works (on one side) and how it can be used / why it should be used in an academical context (on the other side).

The slides I builded for this talk are availiable there. They leverage a bottom-up introduction to the architecture of git to introduce a few potential applications, the ones that I use and work with regularly. These slides are of course availiable as raw HTML on the corresponding GitHub repo, you can fork them or add an issue if you want to discuss further.
